Parkinson’s Disease
Globally, the prevalence of Parkinson disease (PD) has doubled in the past 25 years with global estimates in 2019 showing over 8.5 million individuals living with PD.
Parkinson's disease (PD), a neurodegenerative condition impacting both the central nervous system and body movements, can now benefit from an emerging treatment called photobiomodulation therapy (PBM).
Scientific studies have demonstrated encouraging outcomes, indicating that PBM has the potential to shield dopaminergic neurons and enhance various aspects of Parkinson's disease patients' well-being. These improvements include mobility, cognition, dynamic balance, and fine motor skills.
Several recent clinical trials have demonstrated the effectiveness of photobiomodulation therapy (PBM) as a treatment for individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD). These trials have shown positive outcomes, including improvements in gait speed, stride length, balance, and motor function in Parkinson's patients (Johnstone et al., 2017; Peña et al., 2020; Moro et al., 2018).
Considering these findings, PBM holds promise as a potential therapy for Parkinson's disease, offering a non-invasive and potentially effective alternative or complementary treatment option. For further information, please refer to the studies mentioned below:
